Sugar Cookies

INGREDIENTS

Dough

1 1/2 cup powdered sugar, sifted
1 egg
1 cup of butter (2 sticks), soften
1 tablespoon vanilla
1/2 tablespoon almond extract
2 1/2 cups flour
1 tablespoon baking soda
1 tablespoon cream of tartar

Icing

1/2 cup butter (1 stick), softened
3 cups powdered sugar
1 egg yolk
1/2  tablespoon vanilla
2 tablespoons cream or milk
Food coloring, optional

DIRECTIONS

Dough

Cream sugar and margarine together.

Mix in egg, vanilla and almost extract. 

In a separate bowl mix together flour and baking soda. 

Blend  dry ingredients into sugar and butter mixture.

Refrigerate 2-3 hours.

Roll out on  floured surface and cut cookies.

Heat oven to 375. Bake 7-8 minutes.

Icing

Cream butter while gradually adding half of the sugar.

Beat in egg yolk and vanilla.  

Blend in remaining sugar slowly.

Add enough cream or milk to make the icing a spreading consistency.

Then add food coloring, if using.
